Make Own Colored Sugar

I’ve seen for some time in the stores, colored sugar crystals for decorating baked goods. I haven’t bought any, but after a few investigations I realized it’s so simple to do it yourself and it’s much cheaper.

How It’s Made?
Step 1: Put the sugar in a bowl and add food color.
Step 2: Mix together using a fork or your fingers. As the color saturates all of the crystals, you’ll get a good idea of how deep the color is. Add more color or sugar to adjust the depth of color.
Step 3: Spread the colored sugar on a plate and let sit out to dry for at least one hour. You can use an oven to speed up the process. Once the sugar is dried, break the large clumps that have been formed during the drying process.

    1. Thanks for the visit, Bernice! 🙂 This is a wonderful and very simple technique and you can use this sugar to decorate a lot of desserts. It’s much cheaper than the store-bought version.

    1. No problem, Ariana. Thanks for the visit! The colored sugar will make a wonderful cupcakes decoration. I used this pink sugar to decorate Valentine’s Day Cupcakes. The recipe is going to be published tomorrow on my blog, so please come back in visit if you’re interested to see the results. 🙂

    1. Indeed. It’s not fine sugar (it has bigger crystals), but it’s not mentioned anywhere on the label that it’s a specific type of sugar. It’s sold as ordinary sugar. 🙂
